The Five Most In-Demand Industries in Townsville

1. Healthcare and medical.

With Townsville’s booming population, it comes as no surprise that there is a demand in the healthcare industry, with more than 150 job openings, as of February 2020. The highest demand exists in the physiotherapy, occupational therapy and rehabilitation sectors. These jobs exist in both the public and private sector.

Closely following is psychology, counseling and social work. It is worth noting the jobs in this class range from graduate to highly experienced. The same can be said for nursing, which is the third highest in-demand profession within healthcare jobs in Townsville.

2. Trades and service industry.

There is no doubt Townsville is a growing city. Last year the city grew by 1.74%, only .01% less than the Gold Coast. Experts predict this number is only set to heighten within the next five years. Naturally with a growing population in Townsville, there is a high demand for new infrastructure.

If you’re in the trade and services industry, you’re in luck! There are currently more than 100 jobs advertised on Seek for Townsville city alone. The highest vacancies exist in the air-conditioning (not surprising in Queensland), automotive, electrician and technician sector.

No need to worry about your experience level as all trades and services are taking applications for multiple skill levels, including apprentices.

Secondary teachers are the most in-demand, as are those with specialisations in the sciences or languages are most desired. Don’t worry if you’re a primary school teacher though — there are plenty of teaching opportunities around for you too.

Top 3 Reasons Townsville is a Great Place to Live & Work

1. Work-life balance.

Work life balance, it’s something we all strive to achieve. Many of the jobs available in Townsville, such as teaching and tourism, have varied working hours allowing many employees to have a great work life balance. They have time to take advantage of the stunning scenery and abundance of gorgeous days. If you’re lucky enough to score a job on Magnetic Island, your whole life may seem like a holiday.

2. The weather.

Like most of Queensland, the Townsville weather is the envy of many. Unlike Melbourne Townsville, on average, it has over 300 days of beautiful sunshine yearly. Making it the perfect destination if you’re a lover of the great outdoors.

3. The scenery.

We know, it’s hard to find a place on the Queensland coastline that isn’t lined with stunning beaches and beautiful rainforests. Let us tell you, Townsville does not disappoint, the stunning white sand beaches give the Gold Coast a run for their money, they’re often less crowded too!

For an even better view of Townsville, we suggest taking a boat out on the weekend and enjoying the city from the water. If you’re an avid fisherman, rumour has it that Townsville is home to some of the best fishing spots in Queensland.

Did we mention it’s only a few hours to the Great Barrier Reef!
