Sheoak Shack Gallery Café

First established in 1999 to showcase artwork by well-known and emerging artists, the Sheoak Shack Gallery Café has grown into a great hotspot for locals and visitors alike. Open Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30am until 6pm (during winter), it’s easy to drop by and relax for a while. Nestled on the bank of the Tweed river, and shaded by a gorgeous She-oak tree, the Sheoak Shack Gallery Café is the perfect place to rest up before, during or after your drive along the coast. Enjoy a freshly brewed coffee, or order an early lunch from their versatile menu including pizzas, noodle salads and homemade veggie burgers.

While you’re there
Walk down to the Old Boat Harbour Park to let the kids have a run around, or just to relax on a park bench and watch the river flow by. If you hop over to the other side of Fingal, a short 5-minute walk from the Sheoak Shack Gallery Café, you will find a cute walking track to the Fingal Lighthouse. Or if you prefer to sit and watch the waves, or go for a dip, walk a little further to access Fingal Beach.

If you’ve decided to head on through the Tweed and further down the coast, you’ve got to try the Mockingbird Café in Kingscliff. Open from 6am until 9:30pm Saturdays and from 6am to 4pm Sundays, this adorable and friendly café is the perfect place to stop in and refuel. Order one of their amazing coffees, or if you’re stopping by with friends and family, try their house platters—full of mouth-watering dips, meats, olives and breads. If you’re a vegetarian, their tofu burger is sure to go down a treat!

While you’re there
Just a stone’s throw from Kingscliff Beach, the Mockingbird Café is a fantastic choice for a quality feed after a swim or surf. It’s also just across the road from the Kingscliff Shopping Village—perfect for some weekend shopping.


For the final leg of your trip, head to Cabarita Beach

The Kartel Espresso Bar is a great Tweed Coast café that really packs a punch! Located within the beautiful Cabarita Beach area, this café not only offers amazing barista-made coffee, but stunning surrounds. If you’re already fully caffeinated, try their teas, milkshakes, cakes, muffins and much more. Open 7 days from 6am til 2pm, the Kartel Espresso Bar is a fantastic choice for starting or ending your trip on a high note.

While you’re there
Head east to check out the beautiful and pristine Cabarita Beach, or head to the hinterland and enjoy an afternoon at the Cudgen Nature Reserve. Ideal for a spot of fishing, picnicking, bird watching or just to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
