5 Top Summer Skin Care Tips

The summer sun can be harsh on our skin, so it is important to take care of it during the warmer months. Here are our top 5 summer skincare tips to keep a natural and healthy glow.

1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Fruity Water
Not only does drinking water keep you hydrated and helps boost your metabolism, it’s also the first of our summer skin care tips for a very good reason!
Your skin is made up of about 64% water and by keeping the body hydrated, the skin will appear plump—in a good way. Celebrities, such as Jennifer Anniston, attribute drinking plenty of water to glowing, healthy-looking skin.
Tip: Place berries and citrus fruits in your water bottle overnight to have delicious and healthy flavoured water for the next day.

2. Moisturise

Keeping on topic with skin hydration, moisturising daily will help keep your skin hydrated and more elastic. You’ll need a moisturiser for your body and a separate one for your face. Pay special attention to dry areas such as elbows, knees and ankles.
During summer, you’ll want to use a lightweight moisturiser with SPF to help both hydrate and boost your skins sun protection. If you’re looking for that beautiful, natural summer glow, a gradual tanning moisturiser is a great way to achieve a tan without exposing yourself to the sun.

3. Slip, Slop Slap

Putting on sunscreen
Most Australians know the television ‘slip, slop, slap’ ads and with good reason. The Cancer Council Australia advises using a water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF rating of 30+ or higher.
It’s recommended that you reapply your sunscreen a minimum of every 3 hours, but you’ll need to reapply straight after being in the water (even if your sunscreen is water resistant).
If you wear foundation, you can also find products containing SPF to help ensure your skin is protected at all times. Just make sure if you’re going to be out in the sun for a while, to use a sunscreen under your foundation.

4. Exfoliate

Exfoliation
Since you’ll be using a sunscreen and products containing SPF, these heavy products can clog your pores. To help prevent your skin from becoming clogged, use a home exfoliating product at least 3 times a week. If you’re looking for baby soft skin a visit to a beauty salon for professional services is a great way to really scrub away dead, dry skin.
Tip: Exfoliating also helps remove dead skin, so it’s great to do before applying fake tan solutions.

5. Get Your Skin Checked!

Skin Check
This is definitely the most important step in our summer skin care tips, so listen carefully. It’s extremely important to visit a skin care professional at least once every 3-6 months to help detect early signs of sun-damage or skin issues.
Once a week, check your body for any irregular skin textures, spots or signs and make note of the condition of any moles on your body. Have someone check your back and areas you can’t see. If you are worried or notice any changes, please visit your local skin care clinic ASAP.
