Christmas is a special time of year for many Northern Territorians, with a host of Darwin Christmas Events in 2021 to help you get in the holiday spirit.
If you’re anything like us, your December calendar is quickly filling up, so make sure to leave room for some of these awesome Christmas events. We’ve found everything from Santa visits, Christmas-tree lighting, family fun afternoons, Christmas markets and so many other things to do in Darwin this December.

Top Darwin Christmas Events
Christmas Scavenger Hunt
The Top End sure know how to do Christmas, with the Darwin City Council hosting a month–long scavenger hunt throughout the city to kick off the festive season. Children are encouraged to head the their local city council libraries to begin the festive challenge. The hunt will run from 1 December until 21 December with the whole community invited to participate.
Annual Christmas Tree Lighting
On Friday 3 December, head to The Mall on Smith Street to witness the annual lighting of the Christmas tree. There will be plenty of fun with free family entertainment on offer from 4:30pm. Rumour has it, there may even be a visit from the man in red himself.
When: 1 December 2021.
Where: The Mall, Smith Street.
Time: 4:30pm – 10:00pm.
Karama Shopping Plaza
Be sure to be at the Karama Shopping Plaza on Saturday 11 December for an afternoon of family fun, all in the spirit of Christmas. The Fun Fair will have loads of Christmas activities, giveaways, a visit from Santa and some live entertainment. Entry is free so be sure to come along.
When: 11 December 2021.
Where: Karama Shopping Centre.
Time: 2:00pm — 5:00pm.
Santa’s Village
Come and meet the one and only Santa Claus at Santa’s Village, Westland Arcade from 4 December until Christmas Eve (excluding Sundays). There will be plenty of festive activities and fun for all!
When: 4 – 24 December 2021.
Where: Santas Village, Westlane Arcade.
Time: 11:30am – 1:00pm.
City of Darwin Carols by Candlelight
Get ready for a night of carolling at the City of Darwin Carol by Candlelight. Pack a picnic and bring the whole family down for a night of carolling under the stars.
Gates will open from 4:30pm, with the show kicking off at 6:30pm, so be sure to get their early to secure the best spot. There will be a booking fee of $5, per booking (not per person).
When: 5 December 2021.
Where: Darwin Amphitheatre.
Time: 4:30pm – 9:00pm.
Coopers Comedy Christmas Spectacular
You’re going to need to pack a spare pair of undies if you’re heading to the Coopers Comedy Christmas Spectacular at the Darwin Golf Club on the 12 December. Some of the area’s best comedians will be taking the stage to give you a right jolly night of festive laughs and good company.
When: 12 December 2021.
Where: Darwin Golf Club.
Time: 7:30pm – 10:00pm.
