What's your skin type?

Your skin type will dictate what products you should use on your skin to get the glowing, clear look we all want. Find out how to tell what skin type you are or where to go to get help.

Normal skin type

The ‘normal skin type’ is known to be one of the most desirable types of skin. If you’re lucky to have this complexion, you’ll find that your skin is neither too oily or too dry. Other indications can include:

  • Barely visible pores
  • Tolerable to a range of products
  • Being naturally radiant with a subtle glow

What to use: although you need to take with the products you use, this type of skin requires little maintenance compared to other skin types. Remember to cleanse your skin daily, and apply moisturiser when needed.

Combination skin type

This type of skin is often oily around the T-zone area (forehead, nose and chin) and dry to normal around the cheeks. If you have this type of skin, you may experience:

  • An oily shine to your skin
  • Overly visible pores
  • Small pimples and blackheads

What to use: if you have combination skin, make foam cleanser your new best friend. Use this product daily, applying an alcohol-free toner on the oily parts of your face afterwards. If you choose to wear makeup, make sure all your cosmetics are both oil-free and non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores).

Dry skin type

If your skin feels itchy and irritated, this could signal that you have a dry complexion. Dry skin can be caused, or affected, by a number of factors including heating and air-conditioning, harsh weather and even ageing. Some indications of this type of skin can include:

  • Cracked or peeling skin
  • Loss of tone and elasticity
  • A dull and dehydrated complexion
  • More visible lines

What to use: to help bring moisture back into your dry complexion, avoid hot, steamy showers. This is because exposure to hot water can strip natural moisture from our skin, leaving it dull and dry. It is also extremely important to keep your skin hydrated with a moisture-rich products.

Oily skin type

Oily skin can be triggered for a number of reasons including the weather, hormonal imbalances and over-exfoliating. it can also be worsened by stress and dehydration—so be sure to drink enough water! If you have this type of skin you may suffer from:

  • Outbreaks of blackheads and blemishes
  • A very shiny complexion
  • Enlarged pores

What to use: to stay in control of your oily skin, start by swapping abrasive face washes and moisture-rich products such as gel cleansers and water-based cosmetics. Be sure to moisturise your skin regularly, as this will help stop your skin from over-producing oils.

Sensitive skin type

Suffering from sensitive skin? Whether the hash weather is drying your complexion, or the products you’re using are reacting to your skin, It’s possible that you’re experiencing some of the points below:

  • Red, itchy skin
  • Product-related blemishes
  • Dryness

What to use: if your complexion feels sensitive, it’s best to be as minimal as possible with what you apply onto your skin. Make sure the products you use are specifically designed for sensitive skin types, as well as being fragrant-free. It’s also important to keep hydrated, as this can play a big part in your skin’s health.
