Looking to head to the beach over the weekend but hate getting tangled up in the crowd? While everyone else is heading to Surfers, we suggest you drive a little way south and be rewarded with long stretches of amazing, little-known beaches. This will ensure you avoid those big crowds!

Near the Tweed? Head over to Fingal Head, which hosts two fantastic secluded beaches.

Letitia Road Beach

This beautiful beach is so small, it doesn’t even have a name. Located at the mouth of the Tweed River, at the end of Letitia Road, this tiny beach offers seclusion, white sand and gorgeous views. It is a bit of a trek to get to, through unsealed and rough road, but you’re sure to be glad you made the effort!

Want something that’s a little more accessible? While you’re at Fingal Head, make your way east to Dreamtime Beach.

Located south of Tweed Heads, near Fingal Head, is Dreamtime Beach. Park the car, get out your towels and sunscreen, and make your way down the walking track, through the Fingal Headland Reserve and you will stumble upon this amazing, pristine beach. With lots of lush greenery and fine white sand, this beach comes very close to paradise.

Bet you’re hungry after all that swimming and sunbaking! We have the perfect place.

The Mullet at Kingscliff

Once you’ve finished swimming and soaking up the sun’s rays (don’t forget to slip, slop, slap), you’re probably ready for a big feed. Located right near the beach, walking here is simple and having a chat with the friendly staff is even easier! The focus here is seafood, but if you’re not a fan—don’t fret! The chefs here also create some wonderful turf dishes including their ‘Bloody Awesome’ beef burger with all the trimmings.
While it may look it, this is no ordinary Tweed Coast fish and chip shop. Instead of a standard menu, they let you call the shots. Select your fish, tell them how you’d like it cooked (grilled, battered or breadcrumbed) before selecting your chips. This ensures satisfaction with every bite! They are open for lunch and dinner every day from 11am to 8pm, and they are also open for brekky every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 11am.

Still not satisfied? Head a little further south, down to the sleepy seaside town of Pottsville.

While this beach is gaining popularity with locals, it’s just far enough to be off the radar from most other beachgoers. Located about 20 minutes’ drive from Dreamtime Beach, this location is perfect to take the kids. Whether you’re after a quick surf in the ocean or a float in Mooball Creek, you and your family are sure to have a great time. Just be sure to keep an eye on them!

You’re all packed up but your stomach is growling. Time for some food!

Just an easy 2-minute drive from the beach, or 5-minute walk from the creek, is Corner Stop Espresso Bar. Open 7 days from 6am to 3pm, this is the perfect destination for fuelling up before or after your time in the sun. Pick up an Allpress Espresso coffee, or order a freshly cooked meal to reclaim that much-needed energy.
Whether you’re feeling like a Potty’s Big Brekkie (eggs, bacon, sausage, house-made beans, hash brown, tomato and wilted greens on toast) or a something lighter like a roast pumpkin salad, the team here will take care of you. With gluten-free and lactose-free options available, there is something for everyone.
