DIY cat toys

Have you ever bought your cat a fancy toy from the store, only to for them to opt for that discarded straw, ball of paper or bottle cap instead? This is exactly why homemade toys are great for our temperamental felines.

Ring-ball made from a toilet paper roll

Once you’ve finished with your toilet paper roll, transform it into the ultimate cat toy! You’ll need:

  • 1 toilet paper roll
  • Scissors
  • Cat treats (optional)

Simply cut the roll sideways into 4 equal parts, leaving you with 4 rings. Insert one ring into the other, and add the other two until you’re left with a ball. If you want, insert a few small treats into the ball and watch as your cats try to retrieve them!

Cardboard cat playhouse

If your cat’s the reclusive type, then they’ll love a home of their own to brood in! You’ll need:

  • 3 cardboard boxes of the same size
  • Pencil
  • Bone folder
  • Ruler
  • Stanley knife
  • Hot glue gun

Use the stanley knife to cut as many windows as you like into 2 of the cardboard boxes, as well as an entry door big enough for your cat. Pile the boxes on top of one another and use the hot glue gun to make it stable. For a more comprehensive guide on how to build this playhouse, click here.

Catnip socks

Are your feline friends partial to a catnip buzz? This toy is sure to drive them up the wall for ages! All you’ll need is:

  • 1 sock
  • Some catnip

Place a small amount of catnip into a clean sock, so it collects at the toe of the sock. Tie the top of the sock in a tight knot and you have yourself an irresistible toy for your kitty!
