Ask any of the Port Macquarie locals where you should go for breakfast and they’re sure to mention Blackfish Coffee. While today is about the kids, it doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself to some of the best coffee in Port Macquarie! This cafe doubles as an art gallery and furniture shop, which makes for an interesting little place to fuel up and relax before the big day. Order the kids a fresh fruit salad, while you sip down a cappuccino and select from a range of almond croissants and assorted pastries.

Fun in the sand

There’s not too many kids out there that wouldn’t be excited by the idea of an afternoon of sand and sun at the beach. Located walking distance from the centre of town, you can get some shopping done before heading along the famous Port Macqaurie breakwall, all the way to Town Beach. You can relax in the sun while the kids build a sand castle, or join the fun with them. Perhaps they’d prefer to spend the day in the water? Unpatrolled during May, be sure to steer well clear of the rocks and stick to the shallows if your child isn’t a confident swimmer.

Just a few steps inland from Town Beach is Town Beach Park. With a skate park, playground and outdoor gym facilities, there will be never a dull moment when you choose to spend an afternoon here. Bring the picnic blanket down and enjoy a bit of afternoon tea while your little tacker meets some new friends playing around on the swings. If your child is old enough to use the skate park, be sure to keep one eye on them as it does get a little busy.

Take your child on an adventure

Coastal Walk

The 9 kilometre coastal walk from Town Green to the Lighthouse Beach is home to some of the most breathtaking views in New South Wales. Obviously it probably wouldn’t be smart to complete the full 9 kilometres as your little one probably isn’t up to it, but walking even a section of this track will have your child grinning from ear to ear. During the walk you’ll come across untouched views of the coastline, significant landmarks and loads of native wildlife (there’s even the possibility of seeing a pod of Bottlenose Dolphins).

When the name of a restaurant is called Pancake Place, you know your little rascal is going to love it. After a big day of exploring and having fun you’re guaranteed to be a little hungry. Located on Clarence Street, you can choose between sweet pancakes or more savoury crepe options depending on how you’re feeling. The range of gourmet pancake pizzas are a popular choice among parents, but be sure to treat your sweet-toothed kids with a Toucan Suprise, which is a pancake with ice cream, chocolate and sprinkles. Finish off the perfect day with a treat from Port Macquarie’s most mouth-watering dining experience.
