And if you think that all sounds as tasteless as tofu, think again. Vegans have been creating delicious recipes, free from animal products for years and have even gone as far as to win the 10th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational (yes, an essentially cheeseless grilled cheese took out the competition).
So, whatever misconceptions you have about vegans, throw them away! We have found you five of the top vegan restaurants on the Gold Coast for you to drop in to and see what everybody is talking about.
1) Mandala Organic Arts
Located along the bustling Gold Coast Highway, Mandala Organic Arts is a restaurant unlike any other in the area. Complete with nutritionally nourishing meals, live music, art gallery and even free wifi, this restaurant is a favourite local spot for more than just its pizza, chocolate and organic coffee.
Where: 4/2558 Gold Coast Hwy, Mermaid Beach Gold Coast, QLD 4218 Australia
2) Buckini Bar
This vegan spot might look small but don’t be deceived, what it lacks in size it makes up for in flavour. Smoothies, acai bowls and raw cakes for days. Located inside the Lillie Lounge, this spot is moderately priced and can give you a quick little treat to go about your day.
Where: 17 Albert Ave, Broadbeach, Gold Coast, QLD.
3) Easy House
This vegan and vegetarian Chinese restaurant (yes, you read right) on the Gold Coast has an extensive menu complete with faux meats that could fool some of the fussiest of meat-eaters. With outdoor seating and moderate pricing, you have no excuse not to drop by and try the yum cha!
Where: Shop 8/90 Markeri Street, Mermaid Waters, Gold Coast, QLD.
4) Green House Factory Restaurant and Bar
100% vegan and gluten free. This Gold Coast restaurant comes complete with an a-la-carte menu and organic cocktails. Open from breakfast, you can indulge in their home made raw trifle with fresh fruit or grab an organic coffee and enjoy the beach views from the balcony.
Where: 1/74 Musgrave St, Coolangatta, Gold Coast, QLD.
5) Tian Ran
This Gold Coast restaurant serves vegan and vegetarian Asian cuisines. Free from all meat and dairy, you can also opt to dine from their gluten free menu. All of Tian Ran’s “meats” are made from protein substitutes such as wheat, yam, soy, mushroom and seaweed.
Where: Shop 8, 2464 Gold Coast Hwy, Mermaid Beach, Gold Coast, QLD.
There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to eating vegan and living a vegan lifestyle. Although many people think that vegans simply don’t eat anything that has a mother or buy products that have been made from or tested on animals, vegan living is about much more than doing your part to prevent the exploitation of animals.
People who avoid animal products enjoy lower rates of obesity and their diets can also be linked to a reduced risk of type II diabetes, lower BMIs and even a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease. You don’t even have to completely adopt the vegan lifestyle to enjoy its health benefits. Simply cutting out animal products from just part of your daily or weekly schedule has also been linked to better health.
You might be thinking that it all sounds great, but what about that life sustaining protein that vegans are missing out on. Simply put – they don’t. Vegans still eat a lot of protein; they just get it from plants.
Think it’s gonna break the bank? Think again! Adopting a vegan diet can be a very healthy and economical way to live. Most of the items you need to centre your diet around can be purchased in bulk and store well for a while. There are many recipe books available to show you tasty vegan recipes that are both nutritionally balanced and cheap.
So, what are you waiting for? Put down the fork of meat and use LocalSearch to find the nearest vegan restaurant on the Gold Coast. You won’t be disappointed.
