Paradox Beer Lab
The Paradox Beer Laboratory was started by Russell – a biochemist and beer lover – who runs this lab out of his home. His experimenting has resulted in some incredible craft beers loved by the locals, including an American IPA and an imperial breakfast stout with flavours of maple syrup and coffee. Not only does he brew these incredible beers to be served up at local events and bars (such as the Pick and Shovel Craft Bar below), but he also shares all of his recipes on his website for those brave enough to attempt brewing at home.
Where: On tap in Molly Malone’s Irish Pub & various events around Townsville QLD.
Pick & Shovel Craft Bar in Molly Malone’s Irish Pub
The Pick and Shovel is part of Molly Malone’s Irish Pub and calls itself Townsville’s first beer lovers’ bar. As mentioned above, Paradox Beer Lab can often be found on tap here as a guest beer, but Pick and Shovel also has an impressive range of regular brews. On tap you’ll find James Squire and Little Creatures beers, including the James Squire Sundown beer famous for its citrus and fresh grass palate. You’ll also find rare bottled beers such as the Kosciusko pale, brewed in the highest brewery in Australia, and the Karl Strauss Red Trolley Ale which is well known for its rich colour and toffee flavours. If malts and hops aren’t quite your thing, check out their on tap and bottled ciders for a refreshing drink.
