These local licensed establishments may be small but they prove the age-old adage – size definitely doesn’t matter. Knock off work, jump in the car and find the beer your heart’s been searching for.
His Boy Elroy
Located on Globe Lane, this bar is the definition of ‘hole in the wall’. However, one step through the large sliding door and you will be transported into a trendy spot to catch up with mates. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, you don’t need to be keen on a good night out to find an excuse to head down to His Boy Elroy. Although the burgers have been a hit among locals (with names like Magic shroom and Dirty dog, who wouldn’t want to try them) they’re not the reason we’re here. His Boy Elroy features several different beers on tap, including Young Henrys and Newtown. If they don’t meet your taste requirements, select from a variety of popular bottled beers including Budweiser. Little Creatures Pale Ale and more.

The Little Prince
A little taste of Melbourne in the Gong, The Little Prince is also located in Globe Lane – right next to an entrance to Myer. This bar and restaurant is as trendy as they come, despite not looking like much from the outside. Proudly proclaimed as an Adults Only venue, no under 18s will be allowed within the doors and anyone who acts like a kid will be asked to leave. Enjoy your ice cold beer surrounded by people who simply want to appreciate a unique selection of beers, wines, spirits and liqueurs. A beer garden simply feels at home in the heart of the CBD, and The Little Prince’s does not disappoint. With happy hours every Tuesday-Saturday from 4pm through to 7pm, you won’t have to even think about where to go after work.

Three Chimneys
Situated outside of the Illawarra Brewery, this specialty coffee roastery and woodfire sourdough bakery is a lot more than it might appear to be at first glance. Although this may be the perfect place to grab a baked treat and a coffee with friends, when day turns to night this cafe turns into the home of one of the best night scenes in Wollongong. This hybrid of an establishment might not be able to decide just what it wants to be, but that doesn’t matter. This master of all trades is a popular spot from day through to night, and you might have to get in early if you want to find a seat! Whether you want a morning coffee and chat with the girls or a few cold beers and some live music with the gang, Three Chimneys has you covered.
Where: Unit 3 63/65 Crown Street, Wollongong, NSW.
Dagwood
Great drinks, great food and the atmosphere to boot, Dagwood on Market St has everything to offer, and more. Whether you’re stopping in for some Asian or Mexican style street food or are ready to indulge in a wide selection of Australian and International beers, you won’t be disappointed with Dagwood. Choose one of the haphazardly placed booths or seating areas and immerse yourself in the freeing and unrestricted feel of the regions this bar and restaurant has been inspired by.
Where: 19 Market St, Wollongong, NSW.
