Sorbello’s Italian Restaurant is a vibrant Italian restaurant in the heart of Mackay. If you’re looking for friendly service and a delicious meal before or after the ballet, you need to visit this fantastic location. They have an incredible menu with a huge range of appetisers, main meals and of course, desserts. If you want something quick so you don’t have to struggle to find your seats at the ballet, try the antipasto platter for a light meal to share between two to four people. If you’re after something heartier, they have two whole pages on their menu made up of traditional pizzas and pastas to choose from, as well as signature meat and seafood dishes. You’ll even be treated to perfect wine matches for the menu to take the difficulty out of choosing what to drink!
If you’re visiting after the ballet, do not pass up on their dolci menu. You can choose from homemade gelato ice cream or one of their divine specialty desserts. Opt for the savoiardi liqueur sundae served with gelato, sponge finger, doused in Frangellico and topped with roast almonds and cream for a serious treat. Other favourites include the lemon cannoli – a sweet Italian pastry with homemade lemon crema and roast almonds. Sorbello’s Italian Restaurant is the perfect pre or post-ballet stop.

Ban-Na Thai Restaurant is an a la carte, licensed restaurant just down the road from the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre. You won’t have to walk far to get to the ballet after indulging in the traditional flavours of Thai cuisine. Take a seat in the restaurant adorned in beautiful Thai décor and artwork while you choose from their traditional menu full of delicious meals. For a starter indulge in some vegetarian triangle rolls served with sweet plum sauce or the fried bean curd with sweet chilli and ground peanut sauce. If you’d prefer to start the meal off with something lighter, order the prawn coconut milk soup for an entrée with plenty of flavour but that will still leave room for your mains.
For a main meal, order the chef’s special red curry duck ban na. This is roast duck in a red curry paste with coconut milk, pineapple, baby corn tomato and basil. Try their green curry if you’re not feeling super adventurous but want an authentic dish to tickle the tastebuds. If you’re dining with a group of people, order several options off the menu and share it among the table so you can try as many of the delicious dishes as possible. Make sure you book a table at this much loved local hotspot to ensure you can get a seat before heading off to the ballet.

Last but definitely not least is Spice n Flavor; a local restaurant cooking up traditional Indian cuisine. You can dine in, or if you’re in a rush order their food to be delivered to your front door while you finish getting ready to go to the theatre. On their menu you’ll find all of your favourites including chicken tikka, samosas, butter chicken and lamb rogan josh.
If you prefer a spicy bite to eat, order the vindaloo in ‘Indian hot’ for a dish that will make you sweat. The chefs at Spice n Flavour also cook meals you won’t find anywhere else in the region with their goat curry cooked in the chef’s special gravy or the sumptuous beef muglai prawns. This dish is like a twist on the Aussie reef and beef with tender beef pieces marinated overnight and then simmered with spicy sauce and served up with sautéed prawns and herbs. When ordering from Spice n Flavour, finish up your order with some mango chutney and a Kashmiri naan for an incredible and convenient meal to keep you full all night.
