If you want to know why wine tastes so good then you must go to the source and find out how it is made. Inner City Winemakers features a cellar door and winery where you can start from scratch and learn about the differences between a Riesling and a Shiraz. Inner City Winemakers are involved in every part of the process, from blending styles of wine through to packaging and the design on the bottle. Some bottles also showcase the work of local artists on the wine label, supporting the community and serving as inspiration to create unique blends. Their regular food and wine events mean you can also meet with other winos and discuss which drop is your favourite, or if you’re ready to commit to being a connoisseur then become part of the Inner City Cru (the largest group of wine enthusiasts in Newcastle) and receive special offers on wine and restaurant deals in the local area – not to mention private invitations to dinners at the winery.

Reserve Wine Bar – Newcastle

The Reserve Wine Bar’s appreciation for wine and an unforgettable culinary experience makes it a standout in Newcastle. Described as ‘a home away from home for the wine lover, the wine novice and the wine geek’, this couldn’t be nearer to the truth, with their three glass rating from Gourmet Traveller Wine for their wine list in 2014. Sourcing wines from all over the world, there are well over 100 wines to smell and sample. Selecting a wine from this collection can be overwhelming, so attend their regular food and wine events that are held every month. The next evening to attend on the 19th of March is Woods Crampton and Friends at the Reserve. The boutique winemaker Nicholas Crampton from Fourth Wave Wines will host the night with a five course meal and ten wines to try throughout the night.

Now that you have become an expert in the area of recognising quality fermented fruit, find the time to sit down in one of the best venues in Newcastle. Walk through the doors and witness the incredible interior design that was inspired by the 1920’s. Le Passe Temps has a restaurant named La Mezzanine that serves authentic french food and, of course, accompanying wines. A more secluded section, away from the buzz of the foodies enjoying french cuisine, is the Le Passe Temps French Lounge where you can take your friends and impress them with your newfound knowledge on wine, while relaxing on beautiful antique furniture with platters and dessert.
