While everyone will be coming to see the rodeo event over the weekend, there are plenty of fun things to do at the festival during the week. Take part in the garden competition or see the Rodeo Festival Queen crowned—you’re sure to have a fantastic time. There’s also the Downtown Parade on Friday night, which starts at 7:45pm and includes the Festival Queen entrants, floats, horses and trade displays. Whether you’re a Mareeba local or you’ve made the trip especially for this event, you won’t be disappointed. We’ve even found some local Mareeba restaurants and accommodation to check out.
But first… let’s talk rodeo!
Grab your boots, slick on your cowboy hat and let’s go to the rodeo! This event is by far the most highly anticipated of the entire festival. Dating back to 1949, the Mareeba Rodeo has become a national icon and draws crowds from far and wide. Watch rodeo experts maintain their balance on a bucking bull, lasso a calf and go head-to-head in a State of Origin of a different kind: where they will compete in bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback, steer wrestling and a barrel race. It doesn’t get more exciting than that! So check out the rodeo this weekend and cheer on these brave riders.
