For an exciting family day out, pack the kids in the car and head to the Big Kart Track. Located on Steve Irwin Way in Landsborough, it’s just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of the Sunny Coast CBD, and offers one of the best family days out. Whether you have small children, or big kids, they’ll all have a ball at the Big Kart Track.
Let the teenagers loose on the Kart Track, ready to battle it out for first place in some fast go karts. For the little ones, head to the kids track and put them in their own safe cart, or you can hop in beside them and help them navigate their way around the bitumen. All karts are equipped with harnesses, and you’ll receive pre-race training and a quality helmet to ensure you, and the kids, are perfectly safe. Whether you’re racing against other competitors, or your own family members, you’ll have a great time at the Big Kart Track!

If you want a low-key family day out (that’s still a bunch of fun), then head to the Bellingham Maze. This attraction has been operating since 1993, and is a popular place to take the whole family for some outdoor fun. They’ve recently re-grown the whole hedge maze so it looks as good as it did when it was first opened (if not better), and there’s plenty to do on the grounds.
Buy tickets for the family and you can spend the day completing treasure hunts, puzzles and getting lost in the hedge maze. Once you’ve had your fun, why not try your hand at a round of mini golf for some healthy competition between you and the kids? In the afternoon, you can sit down to a hot tea and check out the aviary that’s home to a huge number of native and tropical birds including king parrots, rosellas and a male peacock (Mr Spock). If you’re worried the older kids will find the day a bit tame, send them off into the challenging 1.8-metre high timber maze that proves to be a real puzzle when it comes to finding your way out! The whole family will have fun with a day out at Bellingham Maze.

Whether you’re heading to the Big Kart Track or Bellingham Maze, you’re going to need some strong coffee to sustain you. We’ve found a nearby cafe to get your fix below, or check out these 5 best kids meals on the Sunny Coast!

This cafe is a local favourite, tucked away in Maroochydore. Close to Bellingham Maze (and only a 20-minute drive to the Big Kart Track), you can bring your kids to this family friendly cafe. If you pop in on the weekend, you’ll be treated to some delicious breakfast options such as smashed avocado on toast with poached eggs and spinach, or eggs with fried tomato and mushrooms for a wholesome feed. Alongside your delicious coffee you can also pick up a few sweet treats such as muffins and almond croissants for your special day out!
The Hidden Bean cafe is also a restaurant by night, going by the name of Fusion on Ocean, so if you loved this place during the morning, get the babysitter in and head back on an evening with your loved one. Their tapas and cocktail menu is delectable, and best enjoyed alongside one of the many poetry events that this unique venue hosts.
