Top Bars in Cairns

1. Brothers Leagues Club.

Where: 99-105 Anderson Street Manunda QLD

Join the other poker-heads swarming to Brothers Leagues Club where you will have a fun-filled time regardless of the hands you’re dealt during the night. The Brothers Leagues Club’s Crystal Lounge, located behind the Shamrock Bar, holds Texas Hold’Em Poker tournaments from Monday to Thursday starting at 7pm and on Sunday afternoons at 1pm, but be sure to get in for early-bird registration if you want to take advantage of bonus extra chips.

Brothers Cairns is a self-proclaimed ‘world of entertainment’, so it doesn’t matter whether you’re out visiting one of the wonderful bars and just want to dabble in a bit of poker or if poker is main your focus for the night, you’re guaranteed a fun night at Brothers Leagues Club in Cairns. Heads up: to further increase your chances in the Texas Hold’Em tournament, purchase a cocktail or cold beer from the bar and you’ll receive bonus chips.

2. Woree Tavern.

Where: 636 Bruce Highway Woree QLD

Monday night is poker night at the Woree Tavern. The Texas Hold’Em Poker tournaments at this warm, fun-loving tavern are very social and a great place for you and your mates to get together over a beer and battle it out in a friendly environment. While it is still open for pros to hone their skills, this National Pub Poker League sponsored event is more suitable to the amateurs looking to develop their poker abilities under a bit of pressure.

If your all-in bluff was called early and you have been knocked out then you can cheer yourself up with a famous Woree Tavern bistro-style main. At just $18 you can indulge in a slowly braised lamb shank in herbs, red wine and root vegetables, served hanging off the bone on garlic mash. If you’d prefer to drown your sorrows in alcohol, you can enjoy cheap spirits by the bar. The great atmosphere means you won’t want to leave regardless of the tournament result.

3. The Reef Hotel Casino.

Where: 35-41 Wharf Street Cairns QLD

This venue is for your full blown pokerholic. Located in the Casino Sports Arena section of the The Reef Hotel Casino, you can get your Texas Hold’Em fix while enjoying your choice of premium domestic and international draught beer or a range of other bar selections, accompanied by live sport on one of their many screens. The Casino Sports Arena takes up the entire second level and lets you escape the hustle and bustle of the main casino section – so you can concentrate 100 per cent on the hand in front of you. As for the poker itself, the Casino Sports Arena offers Texas Hold’Em Poker from Thursday through to Sunday starting from 7pm, with buy-ins from $50 to $500 and blinds at $2.50 for small and $5 for big. This venue is great for confident poker players to test themselves; however, if your poker game isn’t up to scratch watch out for those card sharks.

If you’ve had too much poker for one night, you can always head down stairs and try one of the many different table games on offer or even have a flutter on one of Reef Casino’s 500 state-of-the-art gaming machines. Perhaps you’d prefer to steer clear of gambling altogether and poke your head into one of the three other bars where the mood is much more social? Whatever the case, you’re guaranteed a good night at The Reef Hotel Casino.
